Emma Dolan (she/her)

About me: part one

I am a certified birth doula who supports expectant parents wishing to have an intentional and meaningful birth experience. I believe in the value of having continuous and compassionate care during the birth process (read more about my core values here). The families I support prioritize having an active and informed role in their pregnancy, labor, and birth. I attended my first birth in November of 2018 and since then I have supported over 100 families throughout the seacoast.

As a birth doula I am certified through DONA International, the world’s largest doula certifying organization. I am a certified postpartum doula through Doula Trainings International an organization that highlights the importance of inclusive and comprehensive doula work. Throughout the past few years, I have attended several continuing education opportunities, see them on the More About Emma page.

I have been affiliated with Wentworth Douglass Hospital as a doula since 2019. This unique position has allowed me to cultivate relationships with the nurses, midwives, and obstetricians who support my clients during their labor and birth experience. My history with these providers creates a true teamwork mindset between me, my clients, and the care team when we are together at the hospital. I also teach childbirth education for the hospital, so if you would like to take a class with me, you can read more here.

About me: part two

I hold an undergraduate degree in Anthropology from Mount Holyoke College, where my studies included writing a thesis titled “C-section narratives in birth discourse.” I am very interested in thinking about pregnancy and birth across cultures and experiences and sometimes taking a big picture look at how our culture fits into the global landscape.

Outside of my birth doula work I give my time to volunteering across a few organizations. At the Lovering Health Center I volunteer as an abortion doula and aftercare support several times a month. I also serve on the board of New Parent Care Packages, a small organization supporting new parents’ wellness through care packages.

When I am not filling other’s cups, I am filling my own by getting tea with friends, wandering the aisles of Wentworth Greenhouse, or scheming up my next knitting or sewing project. And we should probably give a shoutout to all the baking I do when the sun sets before suppertime.

The past five years have been so full of community and collaboration, but don’t take my word for it, read about my client’s experiences here. And I look forward to adding your story to this list.
